Welcome
to the panoramic Panaji. Your holiday at
Panaji or Panajim, which means 'the land
that does not flood', will be full of energy
and life.
An enchanting fusion of wooden vales with
paddy fields lends Panaji a picturesque
rustic look. You could go on an eco-friendly
adventure tour to the Dudhsagar waterfalls,
or to the temple of Tambi Surla if you want
to get a better sense of the history and
architecture of this erstwhile Portuguese
colony. You could even decided to spend a
day at Old Panaji, away from the main city
where you should be sure to visit the local
market for succulent fruit and freshly
baited fish. Also, be sure to relax with a
tall glass of Feni, that ubiquitous Panajin
drink and chill out at your Jatak Travels
in Panaji!
The city of Panaji is situated on the
southern banks of river Mandovi and offers
you a unique ambience for unwinding from the
pressures of life. You could be bask under
banana trees or get drenched in torrential
tropical downpours. The Portuguese Baroque
style buildings and old villas would
definitely catch your eye and send you into
musings of an era gone by. You would notice
the Portuguese heritage in the paved
squares, grand public buildings and old
houses with protruding balconies and in the
structure of the innumerable bars and cafes.
Places to see
The capital city of gorgeous Goa is dotted
with places worth seeing in and around. Just
3 km from Panaji is the Miramar beach. The
Miramar beach is one of the many beaches Goa
boasts of. The long walks on the silvery
sands of the Miramar are the best way to
enjoy the beach. Further ahead there is the
fishing village of Dona Paula around Panaji.
The Dona Paula beach is a place that
attracts several tourists. The Marine
Biology Museum and Taxonomy Reference Center
of the National Oceanography Institute is a
must see while at the Dona Paula. The old
Goa or the Golden Goa lies around Panaji and
is a must see. Magnificent churches
sumptuous buildings, stately mansions and
broad streets once characterized the 3sq
miles (8km) of old Goa. Today it's a small
village surrounded by the huge churches and
convents built during its heyday, and which
attract visitors from many parts of the
world.
Among the many splendid buildings of old Goa,
are the magnificent churches & cathedrals
such as Se Cathedral, Church of St. Francis
of Assisi, or Basiica of Bom Jesus as
already mentioned contribute in making Old
Goa as Golden Goa.
Make your holidays at Panaji more enjoyable
by seeing these nearby places. These places
not only enhance tourism potential in Panaji
but also are worth seeing holiday spots
themselves.
